What’s Happening at West Lexham - April 2023

Spring has finally arrived at West Lexham, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! The warmer weather has brought renewed energy to the site as we continue to see our bell tents erected and bookings pouring in for the upcoming holiday season.

Not only do we see an increase in bookings for leisure stays but also for corporate bookings – we love offering a unique and beautiful venue for groups to come together and connect.

Also, read on to discover more about a lovely duo who has recently joined the West Lexham team and how moon cycles affect our Growing Garden!

A WELCOME FROM EDMUND
Founder of West Lexham

“The sun is properly warming the soil now, and the daffodils are in full bloom. The birds are singing, and the Bell Tents are going up. We are all very excited about the Easter Holidays and watching the leaves and blossom emerge. We are now wondering when to have our first dip in the lake!

WHO’S JOINING US AT WEST LEXHAM
from Tanya, our Head of Sales & Reservations

“The excitement is really starting to build as we have many diverse and interesting groups coming up…The Springtime sees more of our ever popular Retreats. We also have many Corporate groups booked in for away days too. The warmer months also bring the Glampsite to life. The unique thing at West Lexham is that we can have a full site, but it still feels like there’s no one here; such is the balance with Nature.

WHAT’S GROWING AT WEST LEXHAM
from Lucy, Head Grower in The Growing Garden

“The garden is really starting to come alive now our overwintered crops in the polytunnels are now in full swing, which includes some lovely Giant Winter Spinach and some Asian Salad Greens. It is also currently home to most of our seedlings, and we are busy pricking these out into bigger pots.

We have also been planning ahead by looking at our biodynamic calendar which helps guide us to the best times to sow and tend to our crops according to the moon rhythms. The earth and sun pass through our twelve constellations and each constellation is associated with one of the four elements Earth, Water, Air and Fire. Each of these elements affects a different part of the plant.

  • Earth element affects the roots like Potatoes and carrots associated with the earth signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.
  • Water element affects the leaves like lettuce and spinach associated with Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio.
  • Air element affects the flowers. Like broccoli and cauliflower associated with Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.
  • Fire element affects the fruit and seed like Tomatoes and Apples associated with Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Have a go yourself using a moon calendar and see the results for yourself.”

WHAT’S COOKING AT WEST LEXHAM
The Garden Kitchen Hospitality Team

“The hedgerows are beginning to show signs of green, the magnolias are on the precipice of bloom and most importantly to us the wild garlic is ready for picking. Wild Garlic Pesto is most definitely on the cards as who doesn’t love pesto! Recently we’ve paired it with beef cheeks slowly cooked in red wine served with an aged Parmesan polenta.

THIS MONTH’S TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Toby (maintenance superstar) and Jacob (his dog)

“I arrived at West Lexham not long after my brother (Jamie) became Head Of Maintenance last year, I am a Carpenter by trade, and was instantly wowed and impressed in what we have at West Lexham. Looking after our very special and unique Treehouses is a matter of personal pride for me and one particularly enjoy.

I love it so much here I even live on site! Jacob is in a Dog paradise with the surroundings.“

We’re thrilled to be gearing up for the busy holiday season and cannot wait to welcome guests to our beautiful venue. With the addition of Toby and Jacob, we’re excited to continue to provide out-of-this-world experiences to our guests and the West Lexham community.
